This submunition was dispensed from a larger clam shell type dispenser which was attached to an aircraft weapons station. When the dispenser was released from the aircraft, it would open at a predesignated height. Once the clam shell dispenser opened up, The base ball style submunitions would fall towards the ground creating a dispersion pattern. As the submunitions fell, the small flukes along the side of the submution would cause the submunition to spin in flight. The spinning action would cause the fuze to arm. As you can see in the piture, the submunition had several "BB" style fragmentation that it would release when it detonated on impact
