The Polish KbK Wz. 88 "Tantal" is considered by many to be one of the most unique small calibre Kalashnikov rifles made outside of Russia. A primary consideration in its' design was the three-round burst option, as well as the ability to fire rifle grenades. The 5.45mm version has had several PIP upgrades since its' initial production, but the lack of funds and membership into NATO halted its' further production. About a year ago it was reported that all units (mostly elite and para) using the "Tantal" were reissued 7.62mm weapons because of a lack of ammo for the 5.45mm rifle. The 5.56x45mm NATO version of this rifle, known as "Beryl," had not yet been placed into service.
