Overall Condition & Description: The M86, anti-pursuit landmine is in excellent condition and would make a good addition to any ordnance collection. The landmine is olive drab in color and has minor scratches throughout the mine’s body. Nose guard, pull ring, shorting bar wire, d-ring, and detonator shorting bar are intact.
Type: The M86 mine is a scatterable, hand-deployed, anti-disturbance or self destruct-fired, bounding, anti-personnel mine. The mine is used by Special Forces for area denial, or to delay/disrupt pursing enemy forces with self destruct ability.
Paintings and Markings: The mine is olive drab and consists of plastic. See pictures for painted markings.

M86 PURSUIT-DETERRENT MUNITION
The M86 pursuit-deterrent munition ( PDM) (Figure 4-1) is wedge-shaped and is similar in configuration and functioning to the ADAM. The PDM is a manually activated mine. It has an arming time of 25 seconds and can deploy up to seven trip wires.
Once the PDM is armed, disturbing it or any of its trip wires will initiate the munition. The munition contains a liquid propellant that rests under a kill mechanism and propels upward approximately 2.5 meters. The kill mechanism detonates in the air and propels fragments in all directions. If the munition is not disturbed, it will self-destruct in 4 hours.
The PDM is used as a deterrent by special-operations forces (SOF) and in operations where units may be pursued by an enemy force

a. Description.
(1) Mine, M86 (fig. 1-6) is wedge shaped and similar in configuration to, and possesses functioning characteristics of the Adam Mine presently loaded in the
155mm projectile, M731. It contains a safety clip, arming strap assembly, and internal safing and arming device, seven trip line sensors, a reserve battery,
electronic circuitry, and a kill mechanism, all encapsulated in molded plastic form. It is packed two to a bandoleer

DESTRUCT TIME FRAME. ONCE ARMING STRAP IS LIFTED, DEPLOYMENT IS MANDATORY. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RESAFE. SAFE SEPARATION TIME IS 25 SECONDS AFTER STRAP IS LIFTED. (2) The arming sequence is started by removing the safety clip and the arming strap assembly. The electronics within the mine is then activated by a reserve battery, trip lines are deployed, and the mine is then armed. Disturbance of a trip line, or of the mine itself, triggers a switch which initiates a thin layer of liquid propellant resting under the kill mechanism. This action then shatters the plastic mine body and propels the kill mechanism upwards from 6 inches to 8 feet above the ground, where it detonates, propelling fragments at high velocity in a spherical pattern. If the mine is not activated by trip line or disturbance mode, a factory preset self-destruct feature initiates the mine in 4 hours plus 0-20 percent.
b. Use. The mine is to be hand emplaced or deployed as a deterrent munition by special forces or selected personnel on operations where they may be pursued by an enemy force on special missions
